Wellness Counselor

Roles and Responsibilities
- Providing counseling and psychological services for students with mental health issues
- Providing information regarding mental health services, including (but are not limited to) individual therapy, group therapy, emergency/crisis intervention, psychological assessment, treatment planning, diagnosis, and consultation with multiple stakeholders (e.g., parents, faculty, and staff) and programs at Fulbright
- Arranging for referrals to outside partners for outpatient, or inpatient care as needed
- Documenting, reporting, and maintaining confidential records and information from counseling-related services

Other duties
Contributing to team effort by welcoming new and different work requirements; explore new opportunities to enhance the services of the department; help others accomplish related job results as and where needed.

Education
• Master’s degree in clinical psychology, counseling, or social work
• Licensed as a mental health professional is an advantage.

Experience
• At least 3 years’ prior experience as a practicing clinician
• Experience working within a brief psychotherapy model
• Experience with crisis assessment and intervention
• Experience working in a college counseling is a strong advantage.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Excellent Vietnamese and English communication skills (both verbal and written)
• Knowledge and skills in assessing and treating common mental health issues among university students, including (but not limited to) stress, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, eating issues, substance use issues
• Knowledge of ethical, legal, and clinical best practices
• Working knowledge of the Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM 5) diagnosis and/or the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD-10)
• Multicultural literacy with diversity and intersectionality (e.g., gender-class-ethnic background); demonstrated expertise in addressing the needs of underserved groups
• Ability to collaborate and work as member of a team, including ability to respond to unexpected campus emergencies or crises
• Ability to actively contribute to a positive working environment by exhibiting solution-focused, positive, cooperative and flexible behavior
• Ability to speak publicly; ability to represent Wellness Counseling Services to the campus community
• Ability to independently organize, manage and prioritize tasks, including clinical caseload
• Knowledge and experience in learning assessments (i.e., learning disabilities) is a strong advantage.
