Welding Specialist

The role of the Welding Specialist is to provide welding services and welding consultancy under the guidance of a Welding Manager to meet end user demands.
The person contributes to the provision of effective service of URV’s clients in the Engineering field by following specific inspection assignments and operational task as allocated by the management team. The welding specialist also contributes to the effective daily operations by undertaking responsibility for managing workshop facilities and inspection assignments as required.
Key Responsibilities include:
• Undertake welding and fabrication inspection to QMS and ISO9001 standards
• Modelling of robots and its collision geometry
• Planning of robot movements in collision-safe manner
• Control system implementation for execution of robot trajectories
• Observe and improve welding procedures and welding qualifications
• Provide welding recommendations for GMAW, GTAW, MMAW, SAW including documenting and testing welding procedures
• Trouble shoot contributing factors of raw material, design faults, component variations etc
• Assist with the setup and maintenance of equipment and welding facilities
• Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives working towards best practice

• IIW Welding Engineer
• Mechatronics/Robotics/Autonomous Systems training
• Practical knowledge of automated robotic welding
• Highly skilled in common welding processes
• Strong communication, interpersonal and IT skills
• Mechanical aptitude able to interpret technical drawings
• 7 years of fabrication/welding experience
• Commitment to excellent and attention to detail
• Understanding of modern robotic technology frameworks
Highly regarded Skills, Experience and Attributes
• Welding Supervisors (Cert 10/2214 or IWS) min. and/or Inspectors qualification
• Coating Inspection experience
• Welder training experience
• Able to demonstrate a technical proficiency in one or more autonomy disciplines (machine control, perception, planning, localization, safety, security, etc)
