Report to: Student Experience Manager

Job Objectives:
The Counsellor (Well-being and Personal development) is responsible in support the success of students academically, socially, behaviourally, and emotionally, to help students navigate the tumultuous school years with confidence and success.

This position will be engaged in students activities, provide group and individual counselling, conduct educational and personality assessments, address behavioural problems during their time at university and design & execute workshops about students’ personal development.

Key responsibilities:
Major Duties and Responsibilities listed may include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Provide counselling, instruction, and mentoring for those struggling with social, emotional, and behavioural problems.
2. Promote wellness, resilience and professionalism by reinforcing communication and social skills, problem solving, anger management, self-regulation, self-determination, and optimism through variety of workshops and talks
3. Support students to overcome personal problems and cope with stress in exams, study, personal relationships, genders, emotional intelligence, …
4. Work With Students and Their Families to:
• Identify and address learning and behaviour problems that interfere with school success
• Evaluate eligibility for special education services (within a multidisciplinary team)
• Support students' social, emotional, and behavioural health
• Make referrals and help coordinate community support service
5. Work with Student Experience Manager to:
• Conduct assessments and screenings, collect and analyse data related to investigate and predict potential issues, student outcomes, and accountability requirements
• Implement school-wide prevention programs that help maintain positive school climates conducive to learning
• Promote school policies and practices that ensure the safety of all students by preventing school violence, bullying, and harassment
• Design, implement, and deliver comprehensive mental health enhancement, personal and social development programme via a number of workshops/talks about personal development, psychological management, emotional intelligence…etc…
• Involve with Student Recruitment in high-schools’ activities and deliver talks about personal development topics…
• Ensure timely responses to a variety of written requests from students and parents for information relating to well-being and personal development via telephone, correspondence and/or electronic mail
• Ensure the quality customer service is always provided to students and parents
• Update and report to the Student Experience Manager on all wellbeing services activities and developments on a weekly basis
• Assist to manage the expenditure within the approved budget and report on weekly basis of department expenses
• Prepare budget requirements for organizing and implementing all events within the department
• Assist Student Experience Manager in preparing periodic reports and newsletter updates for Management and the University
6. Maintains confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues.
7. Counsellor is constantly observant of the needs and challenges of students and promptly engages an administrator or appropriate educational staff associates when the there is reason to suspect or reasonably believe that a student is at risk or in danger due to such issues as bullying, sexual harassment/misconduct, depression or suicide ideation, or academic failure.
8. Assists in the supervision of students at school activities and events. Remains vigilant of students throughout the school day and extra-curricular activities, taking the initiative to engage students when students are acting inappropriately
9. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM ACADEMIC/PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION
• Vietnamese national with bilingual languages
• Must have degree in education psychology from an accredited school of psychology or equivalent qualifications

RELATED EXPERIENCE
• Psychology and counselling experience for teenagers and young adults (from 18-24)
• Prior experience in education and schools/universities is desirable

COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES)
• Strong problem solving and analytical thinking skills
• Intermediate English level
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, time management, and presentation skills
• Flexibility and cultural awareness
• Computer literacy in MS office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
• Comfortable to work with diverse-backgrounds and different characteristics of students, youngsters…
Knowledge of tests and measurements in EQ, psychological assessments…
