Stress Engineer - Structures & Mechanical Systems

You will function as a technical resource for preparing detailed substantiation and stress analysis reports to support certification activities for the reverse engineering of aircraft parts and assemblies.

TASKS/DUTIES:

- Perform engineering stress analysis and generate reports for developed designs.
- Assist in the guidance and support for design development from a stress analysis perspective. This will include review on preliminary design drawings.
- Support the development and modification of designed and repaired parts.
- Participate in the planning and execution of component testing.
- The position may involve providing guidance to more junior staff members.
- Coordinate with certification activates.

- A strong understanding of classical stress analysis techniques including free body diagrams and the strength of materials.
- Proven experience in analytical/hand calculations for stress analysis.
- The ability to visualize structural load paths, forces, vectors, reaction forces and moments, matrix analysis, lugs and bearing strength analysis etc.
- Experience in finite element modeling.
- Interest and or experience in the study of fracture mechanics and damage tolerance analysis.
- A strong working knowledge of aircraft structures and mechanical systems.
- A good working understanding of aircraft drawings, maintenance manuals, drawing layout and manufacturing processes.
- A basic understanding of the certification process and a working understanding of Transport Canada CAR and FAA FAR certification requirements is an asset.
- Strong report writing skills.
- Knowledge of Bombardier DHC-8 and or related products is an asset.
- Excellent people and communication skills (written/oral).
- Self-motivated, logical thinker and results oriented problem solver.
- Experience with solidworks or other 3D modeling packages is an asset.
- Strong computer skills in MS office.
-  Min. 5 years relevant experience in stress analysis within the aerospace, defense, or manufacturing industry.
