The position of Senior US GAAP Accountant supports the monthly closing of the US GAAP and Vietnamese Accounting Standards ‘VAS”. The person will ensure the proper reporting and recording of key accounting transactions. The person is also responsible for compliance with AES financial policies. This position requires good knowledge of both local and US GAAP.

The position involves supervision of staff.

The position requires communication and collaboration within the SBU and Plant Site.
The incumbent will be responsible for the monthly closing of the US GAAP and Vietnamese Accounting Standards “VAS”.

Key Result Areas
1. Month end closing
a. Manage the critical path related to monthly closings and consolidation process including timing of local submissions, appropriate work distribution and development of appropriate procedures and documentation of review process.
b. Preparation of trial balance and other financial reports under US GAAP for group reporting purposes and financial reports under VAS.
c. Prepare technical issues documentation.
d. Documentation standards review.

2. Internal control/internal policies
a. Support of development and implementation of Accounting and Financial Reporting policies and procedures in compliance with AES Global Policies and Controls requirements.
b. Participate in testing of internal controls as required per AES policy.
c. Assist in the ongoing compliance with requirements of internal control requirement.

3. Management/oversight review of processes to include:
a. Monthly balance sheet account reconciliations.
b. Journal entries including accrual entries.
c. Insignificant routine invoices posting.

4. Act as liaison between relevant teams that can include Commercial, Procurement, HR (Payroll), Plant Operations & Maintenance, SBU FP&A, Tax and Treasury on accounting transactions for their allocated areas of responsibility.

5. Internal and External financial reporting:
a. Prepare Quarterly Financial Statements and Monthly Project Actual Report for Lenders.
b. Develop and coordinate further financial analysis and reporting needs with the business teams and with Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis.
c. Prepare draft Annual VN GAAP Financial Statements.
d. Prepare draft financial reports to AES – VCM’s partners as required.
e. Prepare draft financial reports to local authorities as required.

6. SBU Related
a. Provide information to the SBU FP&A team for monthly and quarterly reporting to AES Corporate for quarterly/annual SEC filings.
b. Work with the SBU/Country Tax team to prepare FAS 109, FIN 48 and all other tax related package, adjustments and filings.
c. Special accounting projects as directed including potential support in corporate development activities in the region.

7. Other responsibilities
a. Provide the support in the analysis, documentation and implementation of appropriate accounting treatments related to unusual transactions (in conjunction with SBU Technical Accounting and local/global audit staffs).
b. Responsible for preparation of monthly templates for completion to facilitate reporting to SBU/ AES Corporate.
c. Perform and document technical accounting research and analysis.
d. Provide the support in maintaining the company’s compliance with contract reporting and the related accounting assessments.
e. Provide the support in facilitating external and internal audit process, compliance with audit timelines and adherence to policy concerning engagement of independent auditors.

Desired Skills & Experience
1. CP/ACCA Certificate and working knowledge of US GAAP is preferred.
2. Mix of industry and Big Four accounting experience or comparable experience preferred.
3. Candidate must have strong communication and collaboration skills.
4. Experience with managing monthly closing process, understanding day to day closing process.
5. Experience with preparing financial reports, statements and projections as well as producing operational business analysis and developing appropriate reporting to monitor key business trends.
6. English language skills, both verbal and written.
7. Time management and multiple priorities management.
8. Interpersonal skills and people management skills.
