Senior Footwear Pattern Engineer

Purpose:
The Senior Footwear Pattern Engineer has the responsibility to collaborate effectively with his/her manager and other cross-functional partners. These include Fashion Design, Print Design, Product Development, Production and Quality Assurance.
Works in collaboration with the footwear innovation and product creation teams to research, explore, conceptualize, and ultimately engineer technically advanced prototypes, as well as customized promotional products.
Understands connectivity between business and innovation: Appreciates the interconnectedness of processes, materials, art and science with business objectives.
Strong team player that successfully collaborates and works well with others; keeps partners up to date and takes responsibility for forward movement of programs.

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITES
• Work with multi-disciplinary teams including product creation and manufacturing.
• Check the input requirements from Design and functionality and ensure they are in accordance with the company’s standards.
• Check patterns and apply size grading rules accordingly.
• Operate within calendar.
• Interact daily with designers, developers, graphics, sample room and production to ensure pattern fit and quality, while supporting design intent.
• Prepare the patterns for all development stages: Basic Size till complete size range and hand them over for sample making.
• Coordinate and share technical information with BOM (Bill of Material) Administrator, Specialist Technical Drawings and Specifications, Specialist Material Consumption Calculation and Upper Technicians.
• Continuously evaluate existing processes or operations for efficiency and recommend improvements.
• Translate advanced design inspirations into a 3-dimensional product through collaboration with core innovation teams.
• Effectively define and communicate product details, features, construction requirements, and critical equipment and design criteria to the functions of design, development and manufacturing.
• Effectively define and communicate new techniques and processes ensuring a smooth transition from innovation to commercial production.
• Anticipate development and creation issues, suggesting alternative construction methods.
• Provide feedback on, but not limited to: material choices, allowance discrepancies, file types, adhesion alternatives, etc.
• Assign projects, direct and evaluate the work, and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competencies.
• Stay current and relevant to modern methods of footwear technologies, tools and machine applications.

Specific Knowledge and Skills
• Experience with Crispin Engineer 2D/3D Pattern Engineering software or similar system;
• Expertise in footwear construction, materials, patterns, lasts and the development process;
• Proven ability to understand systems issues and in adopting cutting edge technology;
• Adobe Illustrator; MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint & Excel;
• Good inter-personal and motivational skills, fostering a co-ordinated teamwork approach;
• Ability to work independently under minimal guidance on several projects simultaneously;
• Ability to provide a clear framework for performance to direct reports;
• Ability to coach, guide, manage and develop a team;

Expertise should include:
• Sport Footwear Pattern Engineering;
• Sport Footwear Design and Development;
• Computer Aided Design / Manufacturing;

Experience: Experienced Footwear Pattern Engineer professional - 10 years minimum.
