Postdoctoral Biostatistician (Jd-1019-035)

JOB SUMMARY

In order to strenghten our team, we seek a motivated and talented person who provides statistical support for the studies within the innovations flagship as well as for the other studies that are performed at OUCRU

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES


You will support the research conducted within the innovations flagship. You will make important contributions in developing models that predict disease outcomes based on patient information as collected via newly developed low-cost wearable devices. For the construction of such models you will use both regression models and modern machine learning methods.

You will also be involved in other tasks of the biostatistics group, such as
1 Supervise PhD students and other researchers at OUCRU in their statistical analyses
2 Provide statistical guidance in the writing of research proposals, study protocols and analysis plans
3 Write code to perform interim analyses for clinical trials as well as final analyses for clinical trials and other studies, mostly using the R statistical program

You can also contribute to methodological research in biostatistics.
The postdoc initially works under supervision of the head of the biostatistics group, but is expected to develop into an independent researcher.

LOCATION
This post is based at the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit, Hospital for Tropical Diseases, Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam.

HOURS OF WORK
Full-time (37.5 hours per week Monday – Friday)

TENURE
Initially for one year, including a 2 month probation period, with possibility of extension. (Project is 3 years)

REPORTING TO
Dr. Ronald Geskus, Head of Biostatistics Group

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

• PhD in mathematics, statistics or a closely related quantitative discipline.
• A solid understanding of and experience with statistical analyses
• Experience with programming in R
• Excellent written and spoken language skills in English
• Excellent written and spoken language skills in Vietnamese
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical issues to researchers with a different background
• Analytical problem-solving skills, willingness to learn and develop, self-initiative, attention to detail

DESIRED CRITERIA

• Familiarity with construction of prediction models
• Experience with programming in Python
• Knowledge of and experience with machine learning methods
• Experience with research in a medical environment
• Ability to contribute to the methodological development of novel approaches for designing and analyzing clinical and epidemiological studies
