JOB DESCRIPTION
Documenting local tree knowledge and developing a decision-support tool to improve resilience of agroforestry systems in mountainous areas of Lam Dong, Vietnam
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The work will particularly contribute to documenting farmers’ knowledge on trees and their provision of ecosystem services at local/regional levels. By incorporating this local knowledge in an online decision tool (shadetreeadvice.org) to help extension services and farmers’ organizations to select/recommend the “right tree species” tailored to the local conditions, our proposal is clearly contributing to “Out/up scaling the development and adoption of agro-ecological practices among farmers through training and dissemination”. It will also participate in promoting Agro-ecology and Conservation Agriculture and its effective adoption through the provision of a decision support tool allowing the active participation of stakeholders.
Your mission is:
1) to document local knowledge of trees with respect to ecosystem services in Lam Dong mountainous areas where Arabica and Robusta coffee crops are predominant;
2) to develop a decision-support tool to help farmers select the right tree species adapted to local ecological conditions and their household needs and constraints;
3) and to increase the resilience of farming systems to price volatility and climate change through production and revenue diversification
THE OBJECTIVE NEED TO ACHIEVE
The objective of this mission is to produce the following deliverable:
1) An inventory of the main tree species in the main Arabica and Robusta growing districts of Lam Dong province
2) A comprehensive documentation of ecosystem services and disservices associated to the most important tree species in these two landscapes
3) A database with tree species ranking according to the most relevant ecosystem services in these two landscapes
4) Final report on tree species provision of ecosystem services and a series of recommendations to promote climate-smart agroforestry practices

Education: PhD fresh graduated student with major of plant agronomy
Knowledge: Have a thorough understanding of coffee farming, cropping systems, climate-smart agronomic
Skills: Good English speaking and writing
