As Marine Superintendent, you undertake the following duties/responsibilities and appointing key people (where applicable) to fulfil these tasks under your direct supervision and control. This job description covers the main points of the job and new tasks may be assigned from time to time.
Responsibilities:
• Responsible for the management, planning and implementation of all ship maintenance and service activities required to provide a high level of comfort and safety on board ships
• Coordinating all material management
• Fulfil the allocated responsibilities of the Ship Safety Management Systems.
• Liaise closely with the Operations and Maintenance Supervisors to ensure proper planning and coordination of all ships and logistics services in order to provide the required level of support to production and maintenance operations.
• Maintain ship equipment and coated surfaces. Ensure general installation housekeeping is up to standard.
• Perform performance appraisals of personnel working under his supervision.
• Motivate, develop, train and supervise the captains, engineers, electrician, sailors and other marine crew to ensure the required levels of competence are achieved.
• Maintain updates of all emergency instructions.
• Ensure update and availability of plans and regulations.
• Maintain, inspect and test Firefighting, Life-Saving and personal protective equipment.
• Plan and conduct safety programs, including onboard safety training and Emergency Response Drills and on shore emergency process
• Storage and handling of chemicals and dangerous goods.
• Insure monthly safety meetings are conducted by ships management and actively encourage the marine staff to bring forward their concerns and ideas.
• Prepare end of season annual repair and maintenance budget
• Manage and control proper disposal of wastes from the ships
• Negotiate best pricing for expenses
• Create and monitor annual ships maintenance plan broken into tasks to be completed each month

a) Certificates/Documents are renewed in line with most recent government requirements
c) Record of crew’s certification
d) Safety Management System (Safety Committee Meeting, Management Meeting, Safety Inspection, Drills and Training)
d) Record/Status of Life Safety Appliances and Fire Fighting appliances for each ship
e) Repair records
f) Dry docking records.
G) Ship’s Technical Drawings
Semi Annual:
a) Review of Safety Management System (full inspection)
b) Full inspection of condition of the ship
Quarterly:
a) Marine Supervisor Inspection of LSA and FFA.
b) Review and conduct Crew’s appraisal
d) Conduct Navigation Check List
e) Conduct Engine Check List
g) Update all safety training procedures with management and test all crew members
Monthly:
1) Review monthly marine budget
2) Analyze marine operating costs to insure costs are in line with company goals
3) Ships management conducts safety training and reports are filled properly
4) Ships captain conducts monthly inspection of LSA and FFA
5) Review and provide instructions from Ships Safety and Health Committee Meeting on and Ships Management Committee Meeting
6) Review Monthly Fuel Consumption report.
7) Review Monthly Paints & Chemicals report
8) Review List of Spare Parts on board.
Management
- Uphold and assist in enhancing Pandaw’s Vision and Mission
- Participate in upgrading company’s operating manuals
- Assist in creating/maintaining good business relations with local authorities and business partners
- Maintain checklist, records as outlined in Company’s operating manuals and emergency Response Plans
- Inspect ships to insure standards are maintained and problems rectified in a timely manner

Candidate Requirements
- 3 Years work experience as Captain or Chief Engineer of an Ocean Going Vessel
- Extensive experience in a similar role.
- Knowledge of ship maintenance and repairs.
- Certificate of Competence compliant with the IMO International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers (STCW), Master Mariner.
- Medical Certificates and Safety Training courses
- Ability to work in a supervisory capacity as part of a small multi-discipline team and to motivate personnel.
- This will require the ability to communicate effectively at all levels and to supervise people in both a formal and informal manner.
- Broad based knowledge of ship operations.
- Ability to work independently while actively participating as a contributing team member in recommending ideas in entire company’s operations
- Travel extensively living on board ships to improve proper accounting systems on board ships
- Able to make decisions based on available data and follow through on completion of projects
- Work in multi-cultural environments, respecting and mentoring while obtaining desired results despite differences
- Assigned tasks or project must be clearly documented and communicated to the Country Manager weekly, sharing all pertinent information of project status, contact details, costs and any information relevant to the successful completion of the projects.
- Full transparency with the senior members of the company in the tasks required under the job description
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive company information with people outside the company
- Pandaw has a small corporate operating team, we require all senior staff to multitask and assist with coverage when the situation requires
