Learning Specialist

The Learning Specialist’s duties and responsibilities include:
● Teach intensive English and academic skills focused classes as part of the summer Bridge Program
● Work closely with individual Bridge students to create individualized “learning plans” for continuing study during the academic year
● Provide ongoing learning support during the academic year, including embedded learning support workshops for core courses, 1-1 advising support, organizing and supporting study groups, peer mentoring, or other forms of peer-to-peer support
● Work closely with the Director of English Bridge Program and Learning Support to develop and implement English language and learning support curricula and programming, develop authentic English learner assessment materials, and perform other duties related to English language and academic support, as needed
● Coordinate testing for learning disabilities (with school psychologist or outside provider) and provide recommendations for educational accommodations for students with learning-related disabilities
● Provide specialized support for students with learning-related disabilities, including working closely with teaching faculty to implement learning accommodations and provide recommendations for inclusive pedagogy

Other duties
Contribute to team effort by welcoming new and different work requirements; explore new opportunities to enhance the services of the department; help others accomplish related job results as and where needed.

Education
• Master’s degree in educational psychology, special education, higher education administration, counseling, social work, psychology, or related field.
or
• Master’s degree TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Second Language Studies or Education and 2 years’ experience working with students with disabilities.

Experience
• 3 years of experience in educating and supporting students with disabilities, English as a foreign language instruction, English writing instruction (e.g. composition), academic advising, or learning/academic skills support

Preference will be given to candidates with education or experience in all three of the following areas: English language instruction, academic/learning support, and disability education.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Fluency in English language is required
• Fluency in Vietnamese language is preferred
• Demonstrated ability of working with a wide variety of individuals and teams
• Strong alignment with Fulbright’s educational mission and a passion for education and learning process
• Knowledge and understanding of assistive software/adaptive technology are preferred
• Knowledge of disabilities legislation in Vietnamese and/or North American context is preferred
