SAFEGUARDING The British Vietnamese International School, Hanoi is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including references from previous employers in accordance with our recruitment policy. Interviews will be conducted in person, and they will explore candidates’ suitability to work with students.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Students
• Promote high standards of learning and support amongst the students;
• Ensure that students are provided with suitable and differentiated material to make rapid progress across the curriculum;
• Build good rapport and productive relationships with students throughout the school – encouraging an ambitious attitude to learning and excellent behaviour;
• Support with transitions for new students and within the school overall
Curriculum
• Participate in the formulation of VAL development plans and policies;
• Meet regularly with the Head of L&L/VAL Team to collaboratively develop, monitor and evaluate language support for Korean students in the school;
• Liaise with subject teachers/coordinators regarding language learning strategies for Korean students and the sharing of good practice
• Plan and create appropriate materials for language lessons to compliment the curriculum;
• Promote a consistent approach and regular feedback to students (including any independent study and project work);
• Ensure that both Vietnamese and English languages are promoted within the school;
• Support the Language Support Department with translations for curriculum resources
Assessment
• Undertake regular formative and summative assessments with students;
• Review data/levels to monitor and track progress;
• Work with Head of L&L to maintain academic records using iSams.
• Contribute to the system of target-setting with Primary Assistant Head, class teachers and Learning Support teacher;
• Communicate with Korean parents regarding pupil progress and support needs.
Administration/Development:
• Liaise with Head of L&L regarding any students not meeting expectations;
• Support Head of L&L and Head of Primary to deliver training sessions and CPD opportunities for teaching staff focusing on Korean language and strategies to support Korean students;
• Support with translation for Korean parents at special events;
• Take part in training and CPD opportunities;
• Take part in the organisation of the of special days, festivals, House events, assemblies, bi-lingual week, etc.;
• Ensure there is a high profile for the VAL programme within the school via parent information, school publications, class dojo posts, etc.;
• Maintain good quality, tri-lingual, interactive displays in classrooms and public areas which relate to the children’s learning;
• Promote and maintain a spirit of goodwill and co-operation amongst staff
within the department.
Other
• Supervise students during breaks and lunchtimes as outlined on the duty rota
• Offer engaging extra-curricular opportunities for students
• Be responsible for personal health and safety and report H&S concerns
• Support on school trips and residential
• Contribute to whole school development plans
• Any other reasonable task assigned by the Assistant Head of Primary, Head of Primary, or Principal

Qualifications/Training
Degree
Fluency in Korean
Good command in English
Experience / Knowledge
Good working knowledge of international teaching methodologies and curricula
Experience of teaching languages to young learners

Understanding of effective teaching and learning theory. Experience of addressing the individual needs of all children through classroom organisation, scaffolding, differentiation and learning strategies
