HSSE Supervisor

PURPOSE
- Under general guidance of the Head of HSSE, this position is responsible for the Implementation of policies, practices, and operations for the Health, Safety, Security and Environment functions
within SSIT.
- Assists in maintaining up-to-date information and knowledge on new developments in the area
of HSSE.
- Supports Head of HSSE on all HSSE related matters in order to ensure a mutual understanding
of the company’s goals and requirements and to work in a co-operative partnership with local
resources.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Ensures safety, health, security and environmental working conditions are followed at all times.
- Reviews and revises HSSE Management System as required. Assists Head of HSSE in
implementation of policies, procedures and systems to provide for a safe and secure business
operation.
- Applies the overall Terminals standards and guidelines on HSSE and monitor compliance.
- Interfaces with contractor management regarding compliance with contractual and legislative
demands. Supports Contractor and Vendors on all aspects of HSSE.
- Plans, organizes and conducts HSSE programs such as routine environmental monitoring,
routine safety inspection, HSSE Promotion, HSE Day, HSE campaigns, … etc.
- Assists Head of HSSE in accident/incident investigation and prepares necessary reports to Head
of HSSE. Ensures all serious or potentially serious accidents or incidents are immediately
investigated. Maintains HSSE incident/accident reports and subsequent analysis of statistics.
- Conducts workplace inspections/audits to detect existing or potential accident and health
hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to
ensure measures to be implemented.
- Monitors and assists in the delivery of toolbox HSSE talks/briefs and audits. Involves in risk
assessments of work place hazards and makes effective recommendations for action and
correction.
- Developes and implements an effective safety, hazard control and industrial hygiene program
- Ensures that emergencies are handled fulfilling the requirements of the regulations applicable
nationally & internationally.
- Develops, delivers HSSE training courses and participates HSSE meeting when required.
-Interpretes, applies and explains applicable laws, codes, regulations and guidelines.
- Manages, updates and monitors HSE databases, conducts trend analysis and reports on key
findings, including overdue and corrective action status.
- Supports Head of HSSE on all aspects of HSSE and plays the role of acting Head of HSSE when
delegated.
- Participates in relevant HSSE training programs set up for HSSE personnel which are included
internal and external training.
- Other duties as directed by line manager from time to time.

CRITICAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
- University or College degree related to marine; technical or relevant field and certification in
HSSE management.
- Sound understanding/knowledge and proven record of HSSE management experience from
preferably port operations and/or similar industrial environments.
- Demonstrable strong commitment to safety, health and the environment.
- Ability to provide leadership, obtain cooperation and assistance to meet objectives. Effective
interpersonal skills. Experienced in supervising, mentoring and coaching staff.
- Valid occupational Health & Safety Certificate as local legal requirements and safety trainer
certificate are preferable.
- Relevant knowledge of principles, practices of and applicable equipment related to industrial
safety and hygiene and hazardous waste management.
- Practical experience in risk assessment, emergency planning and response, confined-space
operations and rescue, firefighting and incident investigation.
- Ability to direct and implement effective HSSE programs.
- Effective combination of interpersonal, analytical and organizational qualifications with
strengths in: Public Speaking, Team Building, Training and Management, Administration and
Reporting.
- Intensive experience in HSSE audit is preferred.
