BASIC FUNCTION:
Provide necessary financial support to the Hotel Executive Committee, so that the General Manager can meet bottom-line objectives. As a member of the Executive Committee, partake in all operational, financial and marketing decisions. Investigate opportunities and implement procedures for improved profitability and assist and advise where necessary in hotel operations.
The Financial Controller will be required to conduct their duties in a courteous, safe and efficient manner, in accordance with the hotel’s policies and procedures, ensuring that a high level of service is maintained.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide a professional, advisory and executive support service to the General Manager to assist in meeting the strategic goals of the establishment.
2. Prepare and submit reports that are concise, comprehensive, accurate and timely.
3. Evaluate the impact of business decisions where necessary.
4. Liaise with the General Manager regarding potential opportunities and threats so as to be proactive in addressing changes in the hotel’s environment.
5. Practise effective balance sheet management and ensure reconciliation’s are completed monthly.
6. Practise effective cash flow management and communicate all significant cash flows to the Owners on a regular basis.
7. Manage, maintain and develop the Hotel’s data processing systems.
8. Participate in the preparation of the Strategic Business and Operating Plans.
9. Assist in developing Department Heads so that they may take more responsibility for forecasting their department’s operating and financial performance.
10. In conjunction with the General Manager, the Financial Controller is responsible for compliance with:
Relevant contractual and legal obligations;
Hotel Finance Policies;
The Hotel Management Contract;
All other Marriott Corporate Policies.
11. Manage the preparation and presentation of all Hotel accounting. This includes all financial reports, operating budgets, cash flows and financial forecasts.
12. Responsible for any financial requests/duties as may be requested from Regional, Divisional and Corporate Headquarters.
13. Responsible for any financial requests as may be required by the Owner.
14. Contribute to the senior management group on long range strategies and business plans. This includes supporting the financial goals of the Hotel Executive Committee and Department Heads.
15. Provide support and advice to the General Manager to meet bottom line objectives.
16. Advice on strategies aimed at cost minimisation and maximisation of revenue opportunities.
17. The General Manager is kept adequately informed on a timely basis of all potential soft/ hard spots.
18. Deviations of hotel policies and procedures are reported to the General Manager.
19. Review and monitor internal controls within the Hotel.
20. Review Tenancy agreement for retail and shop tenants; negotiate for new lease terms as and when leases expired
21. Liaise with owning company on any Statutory reporting requirement
22. Manage bookkeeping supporting for Gaming operation under Owning company and those of the Owning company.
23. Liaise with external auditors, local authorities in the area relating to finance and licensing
24. Liaise with insurance company, company lawyers in any related operation issues
25. Conduct development and performance reviews, identifying key personnel for further development and structured career pathing.
26. Implement and maintain training systems to ensure that associates have the necessary framework and skills to perform their job efficiently and effectively.
27. Prepare work schedules and annual leave schedules within budget, business expectations and guidelines of the appropriate industrial legislation.
28. Oversee the selection and appointment of new associates within the department.
29. Conduct regular staff meetings to keep all associates informed.
30. Ensure compliance with legislated health and safety requirements within the workplace.
31. Implement opportunities for quality Team Building.
32. Ensure that all associates comply with the grooming and uniform standards.
33. Comply with all Corporate and Hotel Standards and Procedures.
34. Actively promote a work environment which cares for guests and associates alike.

Minimum Education Level: 4-year bachelor's degree in Finance and Accounting or related major
Experiences: Minimum of 3 years-experience in the similar position, experience in hospitality is preferred.
