English and Academic Skills Instructor

The English and Academic Skills Instructor’s duties and responsibilities include:
● Teach intensive English and academic skills focused classes as part of the summer Bridge Program
● Work closely with individual Bridge students to create individualized “learning plans” for continuing study during the academic year
● Provide ongoing learning support during the academic year, including embedded learning support workshops for core courses, 1-1 advising support, organizing and supporting study groups, peer mentoring, or other forms of peer-to-peer support
● Work closely with the Director of English Bridge Program and Learning Support to develop and implement English language and learning support curricula and programming, develop authentic English learner assessment materials, and perform other duties related to English language and academic support, as needed

Other duties
Contribute to team effort by welcoming new and different work requirements; explore new opportunities to enhance the services of the department; help others accomplish related job results as and where needed.

Education
• Master’s degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Second Language Studies or other related field (e.g. MFA Creative Writing, MA in Education or English Literature)

Experience
• 3 years of experience English as a foreign language instruction, English writing instruction (e.g. composition), academic advising, or learning/academic skills support.
Preference will be given to candidates with education or experience in both English language instruction and learning support.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Fluency in English language
• Knowledge of authentic methods of language assessment is preferred
• Demonstrated ability of working with a wide variety of individuals and teams
• Strong alignment with Fulbright’s educational mission and a passion for education and learning process
