Engineering Design Manager

MISSION
- The Engineering Design Manager (Satellite) is functionally responsible for the Connected Living technical team based at the SEMV factory. Being based Vietnam will allow for close interaction with the manufacturing organisation as well as representation within the factory leadership team. The role requires a high level of interaction with manufacturing, the Connected Living Pacific Hub (Adelaide) and the Asia Hub (Shenzhen).
- The incumbent shall provide strong technical vision and ensure effective operation of the team, delivery and maintaining high quality designs within the product evolution framework. People development is a critical part of the role to ensure that each engineer becomes a strong change owner and can clearly contribute to our commercial success.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Leadership Team Responsibilities
+ Actively participate in the local and offshore leadership teams.
+ Work cooperatively with the local GSC (Global Supply Chain) teams.
+ Communicate decisions and strategic direction consistently and constructively.
- Technical Leadership
+ Be close to issues that occur within the SEMV (Schneider Electric Manufacturing Vietnam) factory
+ Demonstrate ownership and integrity of technical decisions as a local decision maker for the Pacific and Asia Hubs
+ Review and authorise detailed design changes within the PEP (Product Evolution Process) framework under supervision of the BOC (Board of Change)
+ Identify and resolve design issues through collaboration with suppliers and the GSC team
+ Facilitate cross functional team design reviews including design for manufacturing / assembly
+ Ensure all the design data is maintained in the PDM (Product Data Management) system and that changes to BOMs (Bill of Materials) are formally managed and communicated
+ Maintain an awareness of cost implications of the design
- People Management & Development
+ Actively coach and develop functional reports.
+ Participate in team performance reviews as the functional manager.
+ Monitor and lead team to meet performance targets.
+ Communicate and drive activities to ensure improvement targets are met.
+ Communication of direction, progress against plan, initiatives, changes and successes.
+ Support performance management and disciplinary action as per Company procedure.
+ Identify and develop talent for succession.
+ Perform team briefings to employees.
+ Build and maintain working relationships at all levels (GSC, Pacific Hub, Asia Hub) to ensure harmonious work environment.

- Education: Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering Degree
- Job Related Experience:
▫ Demonstrable leadership experience of a technical team
▫ Track record of internal and external customer service capability.
▫ Understanding of technical and manufacturing objectives and constraints
▫ Ability to trouble-shoot manufacturing and product designs in a cross-functional manufacturing environment
▫ Ability to manage and develop team members
- Business Understanding:
▫ Understanding of commercial, technical and industrial business units.
- Others (e.g. language skills, technical skills):
▫ Conflict resolution, leadership, strong cross-cultural communication skills, both oral and written, ability to communicate with all levels of the organization
