Since its creation in 2011, the Metiseko team has been driven by a desire to create upscale and cosmopolitan quality clothing, accessories and homeware with a “Made in Vietnam” identity. Upon arriving in Vietnam, the French founders at once appreciated the beauty of the country’s landscapes and culture and saw an opportunity to design fabrics that draw inspiration from their new home and expressed that through the elegance of contemporary fashion. This creative aspiration was coupled with a desire to produce only high-quality, luxury products and to operate in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. These aspirations are reflected in both the brand name and symbol. The name Metiseko resulted from merging “metis”, a French word meaning a mix of cultures, styles and art, and “eko”, which stands for its ecologic principles. The symbol is a traveller’s tree, as Metiseko is inspired by travels around the world and within Vietnam. A formerly prosperous city famous for its silk trade, Hoi An is registered as an Asian World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Having preserved its unique architectural influences from Japan, China and France, a magical atmosphere surrounds this small haven and is what attracted Metiseko’s founders. The first Metiseko boutique opened in 2011, closely followed by the website launch. The brand's initial success and the desire to push the boundaries of fashion and quality drove Metiseko to what it is today: 3 shops in Hoi An (140-142 Tran Phu + Victoria resort), 3 shops in Ho Chi Minh City (101, 157 Dong Khoi + Snap Café) and 1 corner recently opened in Tanmy Design in Hanoi. Metiseko products are also sold in several airports within Vietnam via a business partner. Metiseko caters primarily to tourists, thanks to its locations and the appeal of its prints to those seeking reminders of their holiday, but it also has a strong following of expats and local Vietnamese. Sourcing plays an essential role in the brand’s philosophy, to meet both its ecological and quality values. Metiseko’s natural Twill, Crepe, Satin and Habutai silk is sourced in Vietnam while the organic cotton range originates from the south of India and is carefully imported to safeguard its integrity. All organic cotton poplin, canvas and voile is high thread count to guarantee high quality and meets the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), which assures environmental best practices among fabric mills. Local sourcing and production enable Metiseko to transparently trace each step of the supply chain for organic cotton and natural silk. Metiseko is also concerned with health and social responsibility. To that end, the organic cotton dyeing and printing processes are AZO (acid) free, which means it is not harmful to skin, and the company guarantees good working conditions, fair pay and training for all staff.
