Development Technician (Shoes Making)

Main Purpose:
To provide technical and administrative support for supplier factory product development work, managing information flow between the brand and our suppliers, maintaining accurate records on the status of new developments, and checking on the progress of sample requests to ensure that product is supplied to the correct specification and on time. To be willing to assist as required with commercialization admin and function.

Core Accountabilities:
1. To administer the supply of sample shoes for design work, range reviews, fitting checks, material testing, photography and other sales activity, managing the flow of information between the brand and the supplier factory chosen for each project
2. To compile and maintain accurate progress and KPI reports for new product developments
3. To participate in the briefing of new designs and design changes, providing a translation service for designers and technicians who lack relevant language skills and helping suppliers to clarify written information that is not clear to them
4. To ensure that all samples are made to the correct specification prior to dispatch
5. To co-ordinate the supply of materials and components specified and purchased by Clarks to ensure that samples can be made on time
6. Organise for new materials and components to be tested and approved by the Clarks Laboratory prior to style sign off
7. To assist Product Engineer in updating Range Tracker/PLM or equivalent on product info
8. To collaborate w/ Commercialization Engineer in a seamless way to ensure product is engineered for successful commercialization and manufacturing.

Key Outputs/Results
1. - Design briefs and sample requests checked for completeness and handed over to the correct supplier within 24 hours of receipt
- Any points requiring clarification are followed up quickly and clear, accurate responses are given
- All relevant people working on the project are kept informed of status of each sample request
- Samples are delivered to the correct recipient on time
- Factory invoices for sample shoes and sample tooling are accurate
2. - Product databases (currently PLM or Range Tracker) are accurate and up to date
- Spreadsheet status reports as well as related KPI’s are created, circulated and updated as necessary to keep project team members informed about the status of new development projects
3. - Factory sample room technicians and administrative staff have clear instructions about sample requests
- Ideas and suggestions are given to help resolve aesthetic and technical problems that are identified during the briefing process
4. - All samples are checked prior to despatch to ensure that shoe specifications match the briefed requirements
- Critical dimensions are checked on fitting shoes
5. - Suppliers have accurate information about delivery dates for Clarks supplied materials and components to enable them to plan their sample making
6. - Laboratory test pass documents available for all new materials and components specified in a shoe prior to the shoe being approved for commercialisation
7. Support Ad-Hoc Development oriented Projects and / or reporting as assigned by manager.

** Workplace: Vietnam and Cambodia

Essential Knowledge:
- Comprehensive vocabulary of technical shoemaking terms in both English and local language
- Detailed understanding of the shoemaking process
- Thorough understanding of sample development processes and timelines

Technical Skills:
- Ability to create spreadsheet based status reports (in Microsoft Excel)
- Ability to check shoe specifications and aesthetic standards against a design specification and accurately take critical shoe measurements.

Successful Experience:
- Working closely with shoe factory sample rooms for 2-3 years
- Proven track record of delivery in a pressurised environment to deliver results to tight timescales
