Design Engineer- Mechanical & Piping ( Shipbuilding)

PURPORSE OF THE JOB:
To provide and support the Design of a vessel from concept through to delivery, on time and on budget.
Provide output which satisfies the standards of Austal, the client and regulatory authorities.

1. Quality / Standard
• Work produced is of a high quality and consistent with Austal and Design standards.
• Tasks are undertaken as per the approved process and procedures.
• Rework is kept to an absolute minimum.

• Produces accurate information and documentation, which meets all procedural and auditable requirements.
• All Files & Paperwork are stored appropriately, easily traceable and kept up to date.
• Demonstrates a high attention to detail.
• Ensures vessel design complies with relevant regulatory authorities, specifications and customer requirements.

2. Schedule / Scope
• Work deadlines are met and construction deliverables are not compromised or missed.
• Delegated tasks are fully understood and achieved.

• Remains well acquainted with the task schedule and regularly checks progress and upcoming deliverables.
• Completes tasks on or ahead of schedule (without compromising the output).
• Manages design inputs from third parties such as drawings, certification and manuals.
• Assessment of construction details and providing detail design solutions where necessary.
• Organize the issuing of drawings through the relevant parties.
• Organise or undertake the maintenance of relevant Design databases.

3. Communication
• The delegation and receiving of tasks is effective.
• The distribution of information is efficient.
• Information is actively sought and tasks are followed from start to completion.
• Works effectively in either a team environment or unaided.

• Effectively and efficiently communicate through drawings, verbal and written means to all necessary parties.

Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) or equivalent
• Knowledge of regulatory body Rules and Regulations requirements.

Experienced: >3 years relevant experience & experience in Drafting within the Marine Industry.

Technical Skills
• Selection and requisitions for Machinery, propulsion, power, process plants, systems, pumps etc.
• Preparation of design and drawings including calculations and schematics.
• Vessels design in accordance with technical requirements (Specification, contract and relevant rules).
• Design of exhaust systems, domestic systems, cooling systems, fire systems, bilge system, FW system, FO system.
• Austal processes for safety, quality, budget and risk mitigation are followed and risk mitigation.
• Design support for production.
• Maintain an efficient filing system and ensure that all work is stored in appropriate locations.
• Carries out assigned engineering tasks.
• Provides detail design under the supervision of an experienced Senior Engineer/ Design Superintendent.
• Interfaces with other design disciplines for equipment and system information.
• Provides as-built drawings using workshop and vessel feedback.
• Proficient in Drafting software, Autocad, Shipconstructor and Microsoft office suite.
• Be skilled in 3D modelling.
