The purpose of this position is to provide support to the International Manager (IM) in implementing Deakin University’s plans and in achieving the University’s objectives in Vietnam and Cambodia.
The Country Manager - Vietnam, is a key member of the Deakin International’s marketing and recruitment team, which has responsibility for leading and achieving the University’s onshore and offshore international enrolment targets.
The Country Manager is required to work collaboratively with Faculties, Divisions and other areas across the University and is expected to contribute significantly to the development of strategies that lead to increased number of overseas student enrolments at Deakin.
The Country Manager is involved in all aspects of international marketing, promotion and partnership management in Vietnam and collaborates with Divisions to deliver a whole of university engagement in Vietnam and Cambodia.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES AND DUTIES
- Student Recruitment
• Develop the Vietnam and Cambodia Country Marketing Plans and annual marketing budgets in consultation with the International Manager (IM)
• Operationalise agreed marketing strategies and recruitment activities as set out in the Country Marketing Plans to meet annual country recruitment targets
• Provide strategic advice and market intelligence to the university regarding specific market information, opportunities for new partnership development, course development and changes in student demand. Reporting fortnightly on:
o all proposed marketing and recruitment activities including proposed budget requirements for proposed activities,
o the previous fortnight’s activities including updated market intelligence and competitor summary.
• Collaborate with the Deakin International Communications Team on the preparation of targeted country-specific campaigns, advertisements, publications to ensure they support recruitment outcomes.
• Arrange participation at and attend student recruitment events in Vietnam and Cambodia.
• Work closely with Deakin College by developing a joint annual recruitment plan and providing regular training on courses and Deakin student services.
• In cooperation with IM, assist the University to build and maintain beneficial relationships with other in-country stakeholders, including Australian and local government agencies, local education institutions, scholarship bodies and others.
• Identify opportunities to build linkages with education institutions and other bodies that will benefit Deakin University, especially the identification of potential institutional credit transfer articulations.
- Agent Management
• Develop, maintain and monitor professional relationships with Deakin’s agent network in Vietnam and Cambodia to ensure they are appropriately trained to maximise their potential as recruitment channels
• Provide regular updates to the agents to ensure that they are aware of their obligations under the Australian National Code of Practice for Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2017 and have a thorough understanding of Deakin’s key selling points and courses.
• Develop annual agent marketing plans and work closely with the agents to develop agreed activity plans and recruitment strategies for Deakin and annual recruitment targets. Meet regularly with the agents to monitor targets and measure strategy outcomes.
• Monitor agent performance and promptly report issues to the IM for action.
- Staff Management
• Manage the Deakin Vietnam team by setting work plans and performance criteria, reviewing performance and mentoring staff to achieve recruitment goals.
• Ensure the office and its staff operate within agreed expectations and that staff adopt work practices that comply with, the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act 2000; the National Code of Practice 2007;the Code of Practice and Guidelines for Australia Universities (Universities Australia); and relevant in-country government legislation
- Other Duties
• Perform any other duties as directed, commensurate with the scope of the position.

- Training/Qualifications (or equivalent experience):
• A University degree in marketing, business or communications.
- Experience:
• Demonstrated experience in marketing education services globally including relevant social media and online campaigns.
• Cross cultural awareness and sensitivity.
• A track record of success in international student recruitment.
- Skills/Knowledge:
• Understanding of the student recruitment industry within the Vietnam education context and a sound understanding of the ESOS Act 2000.
• Demonstrated experience supervising and motivating staff and a proven ability to develop collaborative work teams.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the proven ability to establish effective relationships with international and external agencies, contacts, customers and colleagues across different cultural settings.
• Demonstrated ability to successfully develop, implement and measure innovative marketing strategies and to generate data reports that track performance against stated objectives.
• Demonstrated high level commitment to the provision of excellent customer service.
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team member in a competitive and demanding
environment.
• High level planning and organisational skills and the ability to manage competing requirements simultaneously.
• Ability to successfully manage a budget.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills (both in Vietnamese and English) for reporting and analysis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Will be required to travel frequently within Vietnam and Cambodia and to Australia annually.
