Cost Analyst

Main Purpose: To check the accuracy of material and component cost information presented on factory cost breakdown sheets, produce cost summary reports at key stages in the development process and maintain cost records on the company Range Tracker database

Core Accountabilities:
1. To ensure that information presented on factory cost sheets is comprehensive and accurate
2. To ensure that component and material prices quoted on cost sheets represent good value for money
3. To ensure that price summary information is available for review and analysis at key stages in the range development process
4. To ensure that the company purchasing systems are loaded with accurate price and material allowance information at key stages in the range development process
5. To maintain a database of historical cost information
6. To provide regular reports on how product costs have changed over time
7. To participate in cost saving projects, share best practice and cost saving innovations with other members of the team and initiate price comparisons between different suppliers of the same product
8. To manage price changes on continuing product

Key Outputs/Results:
1.
- Material specifications are checked against sample shoes and product specification sheets, areas of discrepancy are highlighted and resolved
- Material allowance calculations are checked and approved
- Material prices are checked against supplier price agreements
- Labour, overhead and profit rates are checked against supplier agreements
- Tooling costs are checked to ensure that the correct number of tooling components has been specified
- Currency exchange rates are up to date
- All spreadsheet calculations are set up correctly
2.
- Material and component prices are checked against similar products from previous seasons and large price variations are highlighted
- Cost breakdown analysis is completed for sole components to verify price quotes
- Price reductions are negotiated with suppliers where components do not represent good value for money
- Opportunities for cost saving through improvements in pattern design or simplified specification are highlighted
3. Accurate and up to date cost summary spreadsheets are supplied to Range Managers and Souring Finance on the dates specified in the company timetable

- Material allowance estimates are loaded onto Range Tracker prior to the deadline for sending out seasonal material order forecasts to tanneries
- Range Tracker data is updated with accurate material allowances immediately after price confirmation
- Product cost information is loaded onto Range Tracker immediately after price confirmation
5.
- File records of agreed cost sheets are maintained for each season’s product range
- Electronic copies of cost sheets are available for analysis by development managers and the Sourcing Finance team
6.
- Reports are complied summarising the cost history of key range slots for benchmarking purposes
- Reports are compiled summarising changes in Factory labour, overhead and profit charges
- Reports are compiled summarising changes in the price of key raw materials and shoemaking commodities
7. Regular input to team meetings, sharing ideas and information
8. Updated shoe price information circulated to order planners and range management teams for special make up product or in the event of unscheduled changes to pricing conditions.

Essential Knowledge:
1. Ability to calculate leather and synthetic material consumptions for footwear
2. Understanding of different moulding techniques for footwear components
3. Understanding of shoe specifications
4. Understanding of shoe production methods

Technical Skills:
5. Computer spreadsheets (eg Microsoft EXCEL)
6. Pattern assessment software (eg SATRASUMM)
7. Managing and maintaining computer and hard copy filing systems
8. English and Chinese Language skills
9. Arithmetic for area, weight / volume, percentage margin and currency exchange calculations etc.

Successful Experience:
10. Practical experience of calculating material consumptions
11. Experience of product development either in factory or working for a brand in a sourcing environment
