Business Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Manager

Mission Statement:

Supports Local Division Managers in leading their teams in HSE, and contribute to improving HSE performance in the different local divisions to ensure an exemplary health and safety culture as well as a strong focus on the environment. Supports the businesses by applying in depth HSE knowledge to offer solutions and advice. Facilitates delivery of support from the Center of Expertise (CoE) and ensures effective risk management through HSE excellence along ABB’s value chain.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Facilitates HSE risks assessment by line management involving relevant employees at all levels, especially those directly concerned by the hazards, and ensures all processes are implemented to control the risks.
• Implements policies, legal and other requirements. Assist line managers and supervisors in understanding obligations, liability and how to fulfil their roles, according to local HSE law and ABB Group policy, instructions and standards. Supports compliance with human rights, security and crisis management processes.
• Engages external (e.g. customers, partners, suppliers and other stakeholders) and internal stakeholders to report on, raise awareness and gain commitment on HSE efforts and performance and obtain objective feedback. Cooperates with other functions, the CoE and business partners to drive performance.
• Communicates with employees and other relevant stakeholders on HSE related matters (e.g. policies, objectives, plans, programs, processes and initiatives) to ensure all persons have a common and uniform understanding.
• Sets up relevant HSE systems within the divisions including reporting and monitoring systems, and ensures they are maintained accordingly.

• Provides advice, support, and conducts necessary HSE trainings to raise awareness, develop HSE competence, and achieve objectives as well as to comply with the requirements.
• Ensures HSE records and documents are controlled and maintained accordingly.
• Reports on HSE performance and progress on the implementation of ABB Group Sustainability objectives and key performance indicators to ABB. Reports HSE incidents. Feeds back on lessons learned and best practice from own units and across the company to management and employees.
• Participates and/or leads incident investigations to find out the causes, proposes corrective and preventive actions address the causes as well as facilitates the closure of gaps from audits and investigations.
• Monitors, checks, audits and evaluates the effectiveness of HSE plans, programs, measures, corrective and preventive actions, and proposes improvement action plans as well as coordinates for the implementation accordingly.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• University degree in Health, Safety and Environment
• At least 5 years of experience in HSE management field in similar industries
• Good understanding of HSE in manufacturing, project and service and the role a safety system plays in managing the overall risk profile of the organization
• Good understanding and demonstrable experience in creating and maintaining a positive HSE culture
• Ability to work and effectively influence at various levels within an organization
• Ability to work with different nationalities, cultures
• Good command of English
• Good communication skills, able to communicate with different level within the organization
• Good planning and organizing skills
• Good problem solving skills
• Experience in a comparable function is preferred
