Bear Team Leader

Description of position
The Bear Team Leader is responsible for the development and management of ENV’s Bear Program.

The Bear Team Leader requires profound understanding of main issues regarding the DONC ending bear farming campaign, including the current bear farming in Vietnam, campaign objectives, bear protection law, major activities implemented by ENV to put an end on bear farming in Vietnam as well as showing the excellent management and leadership skills. The Bear Team Leader shall be responsible for coordinating all aspects of Bear Program.

As these requirements are not readily available in the employment market, the candidate is evaluated based on his/her potential to meet the expectations of this position over time once he or she acquires an acceptable level of understanding to do the job.

Bear Team Leader’s Responsibilities shall include:

• Supervise staff of Bear Program;

• Develop concept for bear project concepts and manage approved projects that are assigned by the management board and/or Program Manager;

• Develop work plan and budget estimation for Bear Program;

• Research and provide inputs on drafted of bear protection laws upon requests from the management board and/or Program Manager;

• Contact and/or set up regular meetings with key decision-makers and LEAs at the central and provincial level to solicit support on matters relevant to expedite the end of bear farming in Vietnam, such as strengthening bear farm monitoring, urging for voluntarily transfer of bears to State without compensation, maintaining bear farm database, raising public awareness about not using bear bile and bear products;

• Communicate and maintain firm relationships with governmental agencies, stakeholders and relevant parties to organize bear awareness events;

• Work with demand reduction team, outpost, public awareness and communication team to synchronize outputs that lend support to bear program objectives;

Additional tasks

• Produce internal reports and donor reports based on the outcome of various ENV campaign activities.
• Other addition tasks as instructed by Program Manager.

Post-training knowledge requirements

1. DONC ending bear farming campaign;
2. Most important wildlife protection laws, especially bear protection law;
3. ENV’s operation;
4. All relevant government departments and the structure in which government works

Requirements

• Excellent Vietnamese and English language written and verbal communication skills;
• Outward character and diplomatic skills;
• Outstanding organization, management and leadership skills;
• Open minded and possess strong potential to quickly learn new ideas and adapt to ENV’s non-traditional way of working;
• Critical thinking and problem solving skills;
• Knowledge of conservation issues, especially bear-related ones (preferred);
• Knowledge of government structure and mechanics (preferred);
