Art / Design Technology Technician (Support Teacher) - Immediate Start

KEY TASKS AND FUNCTIONS
• Maintain the tools, equipment and facilities in art and design technology
• Prepare materials and equipment as required for practical lessons
• Undertake general workshop maintenance and DIY tasks, including the use of workshop machinery where required – eg hand tools, pillar drill, bandsaw, laser cutter, circular saw etc. (training will be given if necessary)
• Maintain and operate Computer Aided Manufacturing equipment – Laser cutter/engraver and 3D printers. (training will be given if necessary)
• Assist with the preparation and mounting of display materials and students’ work
• Photograph student work and upload onto school intranet
• Support Art or Design Technology lessons as required – including modeling the safe and correct use of tools, machines and equipment
• Support examination level (Year 11 and 13) students with materials preparation and manufacturing process guidance for Design Projects
• Keep and maintain a record of materials used and assist in the ordering of replacement materials when required
• Maintain stock rooms and equipment cupboards
• Undertake designated administrative and clerical tasks eg photocopying, in order to support teaching and learning
• Assist with extracurricular activities as required
• Undertake appropriate training as required
• Advise teaching staff on practical improvements to the workshop

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
• Proficiency in English, both written and spoken
• Confidence/experience in working with a range of resistant materials including woods, metals and plastics.
• Good numerical skills
• Basic computer literacy, ideally with CAD experience
• Understanding of technical drawings
• High level of initiative
• Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and also independently
• Understand and implement, as appropriate, the School’s emergency, and Health and Safety Procedures

DESIRABLE SKILLS
• Previous technician experience
• First Aid training
• Ability to use a camera
