Student Academic Success
Student Academic Success (SAS) furthers RMIT Vietnam’s mission of transformative learning through a full suite of learning-support services. SAS’s offerings to students include one-on-one consultations with Learning Advisors and trained peer mentors, success workshops sharing strategies for academic improvement, and online self-access learning materials. SAS provides academic coaching for underperforming students and collaborates with academic staff to design workshops and resources to develop academic literacies in the disciplinary context. SAS is part of the RMIT Vietnam Library and collaborates with Library colleagues to provide a high-quality experience for RMIT students and staff.
The role & key responsibilities
The Academic Success Advisor is responsible for the case management of academically at-risk students, including outreach to at-risk students, intake and assessment, development of Academic Performance Improvement Plans, referral, evaluation, and information management.
Academic struggle can be the result of a number of contributing factors, such as academic history, financial stress, work/family/school/social conflicts, poor university and academic preparedness, poor time management, poor help-seeking behaviours, physical and mental health, and uncertainty over goals/plans.
The provision of Academic Success Advisors to students is central to RMIT’s strategic plan of ‘Ready for life and work’ and seeks to help students overcome obstacles impacting their studies and to provide an environment conducive to academic success and wellbeing.

Key selection criteria
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (education, applied linguistics, social work or related field) and/or relevant experience. A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (education, applied linguistics, social work or related field) is preferred.
Experience in academic advising, preferably in a higher education or similar setting.
Experience with the provision of mentoring, coaching, counselling or advisory services to individuals with academic, emotional and/or mental health conditions (preferably university age).
Demonstrable experience managing and maintaining complex information files and information management systems.
Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain productive relationships with students and other stakeholders.
Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills.
Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrated written and verbal communications skills including the ability to convey information clearly and efficiently to a variety of different audiences.
English proficiency requirements
If English is not your native language then you will be required to demonstrate a minimum English language proficiency standard at a BULATS advanced level (BULATS score 75), equivalent to IELTS (General) 6.5. RMIT Vietnam will require you to complete a BULATS test to assess your level of English before an offer of employment can be made.
