Academic Compliance Manager

Job Objectives:

By working with leaders and staff across Academic Department, the Academic Compliance Manager provides independent oversight and coordination that promotes a culture of compliance, integrity and responsibility within the University community. The Academic Compliance Manager will monitor the internal and external compliance environments to identify potential risks and vulnerabilities across the system and assure that the University is compliant with local laws, rules, and regulations, as well as those of institutional partners.

Key responsibilities:

Compliance
- Works closely with policy owners in the process of developing, reviewing, updating, and implementing University policies to ensure risks are mitigated and the university is following the set rules, local laws as well as agreement/contract with partners.
- Advise senior academic and university leadership on the operational effectiveness of the University's compliance efforts.
- Maintaining an effective compliance communications strategy including promoting awareness to the faculty and academic department, ensuring that they understand their compliance responsibilities and the policies, procedures, and legal requirements that are relevant to their work.
- Manage, implement and oversee compliance related audits to identify potential risks and gaps across the system and develop recommendations on how most effectively address them.
- Advise academic service units on standard process/procedure, templates, letters, forms and other correspondences with students, parents and external contacts to ensure the consistency and professionalism of the university regulations.
- Lead on and coordinate with Exam Office and Faculty in the implementation of Extenuating Circumstance (EC) and Academic Misconduct (AM) panel.
- Act as Secretary to formal academic committees and University Senate meetings.
- Performs other related duties as required or directed by the Chief Academic Officer.

Policy
- Advising Chief Academic Officer and other key policy owners in developing a comprehensive set of academic-related policies, procedures, and guidelines designed to manage or address compliance issues, in collaboration with faculty and staff of the registry and academic services.
- Monitor internal policy and procedure management by consulting with senior leadership about priorities in mitigating risks and advising on balancing administrative burden while maintaining compliance activities.

Projects
- Lead on and coordinate the drafting team in the exercise of opening new degree programmes including both collaborative and BUV own degrees. Work closely with Legal Department for required documentation and prepare a comprehensive application for submission to the Ministry of Education and Training.
- Research, develop and implement an action plan of bringing BUV into QS rating and any other recognised ranking system under the university’s business strategy and directions of senior leaders.

Line Management:
- Line manage a full-time Academic Compliance Officer

Job Requirements:
- Holder of master’s degree
- Fluent in English and Vietnamese
- Knowledge of and experience with regulatory environments.
- Strong presentation and writing skills, including the ability to develop guidance, terms of reference, proposals, high quality reports and briefings.
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
 - Strong organisational skills.
- Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, PowerPoint
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines with limited supervision
- Good knowledge and understanding of university structure, regulations and policy
- Ability to communicate at a high level, both verbally and in writing, and effectively interact with multi-stakeholders including senior leaders
- Experience working with Vietnamese Ministries, local authorities and international partners
