Linux Systems Engineer

We are looking for back-end IT specialists who install, configure, and maintain Linux operating system. This role involves server-side operations and troubleshooting tasks that support business-critical and development activities. Configure user access and monitor system stability and security through deployment and everyday use.
This role requires familiarity with Linux systems and servers and may involve a high level of security/risk assessment and user support. Frequently communicate and collaborate with other developers to develop and implement system enhancements.

Job Description

The job will enable the successful candidate to:
• Engineer, implement, monitor and set up Linux systems and servers, often for organization-wide deployment.
• Develop servers and work with individual users to ensure that the system works reliably and quickly; and answer questions related to setup and installation.
• Set up the architecture of the system, including back-end databases and scripts for specific applications and use cases.
• Perform routine system maintenance and resolve server-side issues as they arise. To review error logs and reported errors and seek out solutions. work directly with the system’s source code to make necessary changes to ensure reliable performance and then deploy those changes throughout the system.
• Conduct system backups according to company or industry standards.
• Monitor system performance to prevent slowdowns and crashes.
• Provide technical support and guidance to users and other administrators.
• maintain system security by actively identifying faults and vulnerable areas within the system’s architecture.

Essential skills:
• Hands on experience in Linux or UNIX server setup, deployment, and maintenance
• Ability to do coding and writing programs; work directly with a system’s source code and develop solutions to improve system-wide performance
• Detailed technical knowledge of database and operating system
• Hands on experience in security systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, anti-virus software, authentication systems, log management, content filtering, etc
• Experience with network technologies and with system, security, and network monitoring tools
• Thorough understanding of the latest security principles, techniques, and protocols
• Familiarity with web related technologies (Web applications, Web Services, Service Oriented Architectures) and of network/web related protocols
• Problem solving skills and ability to work under pressure
• BS degree in Computer Science or related field
• A pro-active attitude that is likely to win the respect of colleagues.
