I believe that my solid background leaves me well-preparation to develop more and make valuable contributions to the Civil Engineering field. Being a patient, diligent person, and having the goal, I always keep the motivation during my progress. I always effort to improve myself and keep myself updated with the latest technology or research topic to broaden my knowledge. I have both experiences in research work and the ability to think profoundly that is the quality to demonstrates me to be a good element of your company.

This is Cao Anh Tuan from Vietnam, a graduate student having the aspiration to pursue my Ph.D. in the Civil Engineering field. I began my career as an undergraduate student in the field of Civil Engineering although I was selected in the University of Medicine and Pharmacy to become a doctor. I decided to join the Department of Civil Engineering at a top-ranked University in Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT) because of natural reasons. My nation is a developing country, therefore, the demand to construct the high-rise buildings and infrastructures increases quickly, and there are more and more projects invested in Vietnam by foreign investors. Additionally, I recognized that I was attracted by massive and unique structures, and desire to become an expert in this field to contribute my abilities to my country and the world. In the process of studying in HCMUT, I had a chance to collaborate with a well-reputed construction firm in Vietnam throughout the internship semester. Luckily, I found myself in a position as a site assistant engineer, where I learned a lot of practical knowledge. Furthermore, in the last semester, my instructor asked me to join his research group to develop my skills. It was a relatively short amount of time but precious to me, experiences obtained from project boosted my passion and enthusiasm for structural engineering. 

     Before my graduation, I took advantage of the time to practice my skills in this field by joining one of the best construction companies in Vietnam, where I serve as a structural design engineer for more than one year. During my time working in that position, I realized that there are some gaps between my knowledge and practical experiences, therefore, I decided to pursue my master studies at Kunsan National University (Korea) to bridge those gaps and widen my horizons. Here I met Prof. Dookie Kim, who is an expert in the “Structural Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering” field. Besides, Prof. Dookie Kim is the founder and leader of “Structural System Laboratory” – one of the best laboratories in the field of Dynamic Structures and Earthquake Engineering in Korea. Under the supervision of Prof. Kim, I started my research career and completed my master course in February 2019.

I had 1 year to work for a Vietnamese company before moving to Korea to pursue my master. During the time I stayed in Korea, I worked as a research assistant for Prof. Kim. I involved in two main projects including “Development of Seismic Risk Assessment Technique on Concrete Gravity Dam” and “Seismic Risk Assessment of Nuclear Power Plants’s Components”

I started my research career and completed my master course in February 2019
